BC Transit
Wed 13 May 2009 10:30:22 AM PDTBC Transit is a Crown corporation of the Canadian province of British Columbia, responsible for public transportation in all BC cities with the exception of Vancouver. All buses are owned by the agency, but are operated by private contractors in all cities with the exception of Victoria. Photos are labelled first with the bus number and then with the name of the community in which they were operating when photograhed.
The Trans-Continental photography team has made the province of Alberta a focal point since the summer of 2006. This section contains transit photos from the greater Edmonton Area (Edmonton Transit, St Albert Transit, Strathcona County Transit), the city of Red Deer, the city of Calgary and the resort town of Banff
Transit in and around the Greater Toronto Region, Ontario
Thu 11 Dec 2008 06:32:58 PM PSTThis section contains photos of transit in southern Ontario, mostly from the Greater Toronto Area with some coverage of other surrounding communities. Most cities in this part of Ontario have their own unique transit system, however several cities that are part of the GTA have amalgamated their operations into larger administrative units, two examples being York Region Transit and Durham Region Transit.
Transit services in the city of Ottawa ON are provided by OC Transpo. At the same time, Société de transport de l'Outaouais (STO) provides connections between the city of Ottawa, ON and the neighboring city of Gatineau, Quebec across the Ottawa River. Approximately 1300 transit buses (OC Transpo's and STO's fleet combined) service the entire region of Ottawa including the city of Gatineau, Quebec.
Halifax Metro Transit is the major public transit service operator for the cities of Halifax and Dartmoth, Nova Scotia. The Halifax Metro Transit operates 59 bus routes with a fleet 278 buses. (52 conventional transit routes, 3 Metrolink routes, 1 Metro X route and 3 community service routes) In additional to bus services, Metro Transit is also responsible for ferry services between downtown Halifax with Woodside and Dartmoth. These services are operated with 3 ferries owned and maintained by Metro Transit.
This section contains photos of buses taken in the province of Quebec, Canada.
This section contains photos of buses in Bellingham, Tacoma, Seattle and the surrounding area.
This album features collections of photos of buses from different cities / countries in Asia, such as Hong Kong and Beijing in China, Bangkok in Thailand and Taipei in Taiwan. These photos were taken over the summer of 2008 and 2009, when photographer David Lam toured around various cities in Asia and captured photos of buses from different cities and regions.
This section contains photos of buses that are not owned or operated by public transit agencies. Sorted by company, these include mostly highway buses and charter buses, along with lighter-duty smaller vehicles used for charter or non-transit shuttles and scheduled services.
One of a transit enthusiast's most prominent virtues is diversification. For the same reason that we at Trans-Continental travel across the land to photograph transit, we introduce a brand new section to the site, born of the curiosities of George Prior - an aviation photography section. George began to take up plane spotting in the summer of 2009, having dabbled in it here and there at various times in the past. But as he took to poring studiously over photos of airliners on other websites, familiarizing himself with airline routes and schedules, listening to voices on his radio scanner, and spending more and more time planted at the foot of the runway at Vancouver International Airport, he began to learn the art of the hobby. His verdict? The aviation hobby is fundamentally similar to that of photographing public transit in terms of the objectives (hence why photos get published on this website) but very different in terms of its processes.
Trans-Continental's aviation project has been dubbed "YXO", which mimics an IATA airport code. (To the best of my knowledge this is not a real code.)
